![]() ![]() Overall, despite the rough drive & relatively cloudy skies, it was still worth it to get the experience of being above the clouds, watching the sun set with unique views of the dormant volcano landscape. A good spot to stop for dinner on the way up is the town of Makawao, several nice places to eat there. It gets cool here, so bring some extra clothes. ![]() It was also raining lightly with fog/reduced visibility when going through the clouds, but if you take it slow, it’s manageable. There are also reflectors, but only on the center line of the road (a few short parts without the reflectors). There are many turns/steep drop offs, with limited guardrails. The drive up & then down in the dark wasn’t easy. Make sure to get to the summit at least 30-45 mins before sunset - you may need to walk up to the summit if the upper parking lot is full. There was even mostly cloudy skies above us at the peak, yet there was enough clear skies at the horizon that still allowed for a great sunset viewing. Only went for sunset viewing & it was very cloudy until the very top. And if you serve someone hair, for goodness sake be genuinely apologetic!! It makes me think it must happen a lot for the server to be so blasé about it.Ī great experience to drive through the clouds & on top of a dormant volcano. We would have never booked for our 20th anniversary if we knew we’d draw the short straw like this. Experience the sights and tastes of a working coconut farm, take home fresh, handmade coconut products from a truly authentic experience. We promote natural farming and coconut information through daily tours of our operations. If you have two tables on the boat that suck compared to the others than you should charge less for them. Punakea Palms is a family operated coconut farm on the foothills of the West Maui mountains. The fact that we paid $300 to sit in subpar seats and be served dirty food is unacceptable. Dinner would have been okay except there was a short curly white human hair in my salad and when we complained to the server she just shrugged and said ‘Oh, huh… sorry ‘bout that!’. And two tables smack dab in the middle with no view except of the other guests enjoying their views (see my photos- the first one is our view of the sunset and the second is our view of a whale sighting). Punakea Palms, -, Tripadvisor (Punakea Palms, ). On the dining deck there are a row of tables against starboard and a row of tables against port side. I never leave bad reviews, but this was the biggest disappointment EVER! Booked the dinner cruise for our 20th anniversary dinner.
